March 18, 2010 Workshop Summary with Video Links Meeting Clips... Background: State law requires that all cities and towns perform property revaluations every three years in order to assure fair assessments for property tax payers. Jamestown's 2009 revaluation was a "Technical" assessment, which means that a formula based on market conditions, recent sales and other known factors is applied to a computer model (program) to calculate each property value. Every third revaluation must be a "Physical" assessment meaning that an assessor visits each property and does a walk around check of the structures and compares that with official records. Jamestown's next physical assessment will be in 2012. In this work shop Tax Assessor Ken Gray introduces our new revaluation vendor, Vision Appraisal Technology. They are one of the largest "mass appraisal" companies in the North East. They have a very detailed website that explains revaluation. (Click here to visit their site) |
